Here we are at Day 15 of decorating your home for the holidays with Chinoiserie Chic style.

Dreaming of a White Chinoiserie Christmas?
Christmas in the Pink
2013 Chinoiserie Chic Christmas Ornaments

And have you entered to win these Christmas giveaways?

Today we look at giving your mantel some Chinoiserie holiday love. Here is some wonderful inspiration.

Note that in only one of these are stockings hung by the chimney with care. I have never been one to hang stockings from the mantel either. I have some beautiful Chinoiserie Christmas stockings, but I tend to use them elsewhere in the house draped on chairs or beds rather than the fireplace.

The Chinoiserie Fireplace

Temperatures have really cooled off here in DC and my thoughts have turned to my fall wardrobe and toasty fires in the fireplace. I love the mantel display in the London flat of Christopher Leach with its collection of mini foo dogs. Speaking of Brits, will I be seeing any of you at the Hugh Laurie (House) concert tomorrow night at the Birchmere?

The mantel/fireplace is such a perfect place for displaying Chinoiserie - blue and white Chinese porcelain, foo dogs, a Chinese garden stool, a Chinoiserie mirror - I have a Pinterest board with lots of inspiration here.

Tips for Creating a Warm and Welcoming Home (a guest post)

Posted by sew4tejhtr6ier Jumat, 20 September 2013 0 komentar
When decorating your home you will want to have a warm, attractive and welcoming atmosphere created that you will be able to feel as soon as you walk through the front door. This atmosphere will help you to unwind and relax whenever you are at home which is of course hugely important, but not just this it will also mean that any guests that you have over will also feel welcomed and able to relax too. This is sometimes something that you may have felt when you have visited a friend, and they will have achieved this tone and atmosphere through their interior design style.

There are a number of things that you can do to create this warm and welcoming feel in your home, but generally it comes down to planning and good decoration. It is a good idea to incorporate colours such as deep reds, browns and oranges, and then this works very well with wooden furniture too. It is also important to buy comfortable chairs and sofas but not clutter the area too much, and as well as this it helps to have some personal decoration in the form of artwork, family photos and more.

The Benefits of a Wood Burning Stove
Another top tip for creating a welcoming atmosphere in your home is to have a wood burning stove in one room, as this can make any room feel instantly ‘homey’ and relaxing. We all find fire very appealing and even hypnotising, and with your own wood burning stove in place you will find that you will spend time simply watching the flames flicker. This is not the only advantage however, these stoves can also act as a terrific heat source for your home, and they could help you to save a large sum on your energy bills each month, and this way you are also being eco friendly too.

Wood burning stoves can look great in any home, and you can also find ones that will fit with whatever interior design style you have too. By visiting wood burning stove suppliers, like Glowing Embers, you will find a wide range of stove types like cast iron stoves, contemporary wood burning stoves, enamelled stoves, inset stoves, flue systems and plenty more.

Following these tips will help you to create that all important warm and welcoming feel in your home, and by bringing in a stove you will also be bringing in a fantastic heat source which could save you money as well. This makes it a great investment and something that will add a huge amount to your home in terms of aesthetics and practicality.

An Inspiration Board - Styling the Chinoiserie Mantel

Posted by sew4tejhtr6ier Sabtu, 20 April 2013 0 komentar

Your fireplace and mantel are focal points in your home all year long, not only in the winter and at Christmas. I tend to favor symmetry when styling the fireplace and mantel. My favorite approach is a large abstract painting (the bigger, the better) and a pair of blue and white Chinese porcelain ginger jars, vases, or tulipieres, flanked by a great pair of chairs. I have put together a really good Pinterest board on styling the Chinoiserie mantel, with loads of inspiration here. Below are a few favorites.

Canary Yellow Bergere Club Chairs from Charlotte & Ivy
Pair of Slender Blue and White Ginger Jars from The Pink Pagoda
Large Abstract Painting from Kerry Steele

Readers' Requests Series - Styling the Chinoiserie Mantel

Tory Burch
We are starting today a new series on Chinoiserie decorating questions that followers have submitted to me. I selected this topic submission because I find that most people and clients struggle with styling their mantel. I also think that most "rules" on decorating the mantel are nonsense and made to be broken - symmetrical or asymmetrical, simple or layered, formal or eclectic, a mirror or art - it's really all a matter of your style and having a good eye. Here are my tips for adding Chinoiserie style to your mantel.

1. Chinoiserie Wallpaper or Hand-painted Chinoiserie Mural

2. A Pair of Ginger Jars

3. Foo Dogs

4. Pagodas

5. Chinoiserie on the Floor/Hearth

6. Chinoiserie Mantels -

7. Blue and White Chinese Porcelain

8. A Collection of Monochromatic Chinese Vases -
