book-look: segreto:secrets to finishing beautiful interiors

i was recently contacted by leslie, the owner of segreto finishes, a premier decorative painting and plastering company based in houston, texas. leslie recently wrote and self-published her first book, Segreto: Secrets To Finishing Beautiful Interiors, a 300 page oversized boutique coffee table book filled with stunning interiors with a focus on why different finishes were chosen for different architectural and design styles.

i was thrilled when leslie sent me a copy of her book, and i was able to see some of the beautiful finishes showcased. the book is really beautiful, and is filled with calming, layered spaces featuring leslie's handiwork.

since the book was self-published, leslie decided to self-distribute it as well! don't you love a lady who can take charge like that? the book is only available at select book stores, but lucky for you, you can buy it online here.

book mention: the meghan method

i was thrilled when i was contacted last week about my blog being mentioned in a new book by meghan carter:

she had a few pages with a list of blogs to turn to for design inspiration, and design dump was listed!

along with my blog, there were dozens of other blogs mentioned, including some of my favorites like:

6th street design school, the decorista, little green notebook, copy cat chic and elements of style.

this is a great "down and dirty" book about interior design. it's not filled with images of polished and perfect interiors, but rather it is filled with vital information on HOW to make your room or home polished and perfect. it's a very instructional and informative book. i was pretty impressed with the amount of information meghan covered in this book...everything from how to properly measure a room, to what questions to ask yourself to make sure you plan enough storage for your room, to how to draw a proper layout...

the struggling economic woes of the world are affecting companies small and large. we closed the doors on our own business three years ago, and many others have followed suit since. i was sad to see that borders book store will soon be out of business, but secretly a little happy that i could find some design books to add to my library. at 30% and 40% off, how could i resist?

while i was there this weekend i picked up:

"the color scheme bible" and "the comfortable home".

usually, i ignore design books with grandiose claims like the "curtain/design/sofa/chair/fabric BIBLE", but i picked it up, and was really inspired by many of the color combinations. so, it came home with me.

i have been a bob williams and mitchell gold fan for a long time. their furniture is classy, timeless and just edgy enough to make it interesting. their book shows the reader step by step instructions on how to achieve the comfortable, layered, personal look they are known for.

if there is a borders near you, you may want to swing by and see what they have. i was amazed at the inventory still left at the store we visited (the riverwoods in orem), but i imagine that if you waited too much longer, there will only be copies of books like "slow cookin' possums" and "things you never wanted to know about asphalt" left.
