and this plan (which was the final look the homeowners decided on) has a more colorful rug, with fuchsia, eggplant, tangerine and mint. the new accent fabric picks up on the mint in the rug and adds another dose of geometric pattern.

i worked with this e-design client on a whole house remodel--picking out flooring, paint colors, cabinetry and lighting. (yes! it IS possible to work with a designer remotely on a remodel or even a new construction project! these types of projects are my favorite! and honestly, hiring a designer will save you money in the long run and ensure you spend your money where it matters.)

the powder room was one of the last spaces we worked on, and is a great complement to the rest of the house--warm, rich, and textural with a punch of graphic pattern!

nearly all items on the boards come from sources like target, ikea, kirklands, and etsy....
because often it's not a matter of HOW much money you spend, but WHERE and HOW.


if you are getting ready to redecorate a room in your house, and will be spending hundreds or thousands of dollars, it is worth the investment to do some homework:

*look at sites like houzz and pinterest to get a better vision of what you like and want. it is a good idea to have a sense of your style before you begin any redecorating project.

*blogs (like mine!) or copy cat chic can give you ideas for less expensive look-alike alternatives for everything from lighting to sofas. be sure and check them out to see if something that you have your eye on is available somewhere else for less! i have a board on pinterest called "affordable finds" that you may want to take a peek at!

*get familiar with what is available online at big box stores like target, overstock, jcpenny and even walmart. there can be treasures "hidden"in all that STUFF.

*do some preliminary budgeting so that you know what you could end up paying for things.

if all else fails, and you feel overwhelmed, hire a DESIGNER! they can end up saving you a lot of money by coming up with options that fit your budget and can open your eyes to other ways to improve your space!

I think I visualize pretty well but I have to admit that it was still very helpful to see the board.  I loved seeing it!  I think even more than me, it helped my husband see what we were focusing upon/leaning toward.  I would say that seeing an actual idea board is reassuring, if that makes sense.  Makes me feel more secure about everything we discussed."

 i recently completed a full room design for a little man about the same age as my son. as part of the design process, i talked to him and asked him what he liked to do, and what colors he wanted to see in his new room. i was pleasantly surprised at how sophisticated his design sense was! he requested that his room be modern and that it for sure include some green. when i further quizzed him on what shades of green he liked, it wasn't "the hulk" green, like i thought it might be, but more chartreuse.
sign me up! i love yellowy-greens!

i came up with two options for him:

amidst all the chaos of moving and unpacking (update pictures coming soon, i promise!), i received a sweet email and some amazing after pictures from a client. we worked together on her formal living and dining room with full room designs for each space. my client took inspiration from the original design plans and then opted to take the transformation one step further with a complete remodel including opening up her formal dining room into the kitchen! it looks fantastic, and i was stunned by the after pictures!

 as you can see, the grey sofa and neutral chairs are paired with freshly painted walls and new hardwood floors. we opted to paint the walls and existing chair rail the same color so that the trim becomes a textural element in the room and doesn't divide the wall in half.


 the punches of various shades blue and green in the room add to the serene feeling.

 don't you love this gallery wall? i love that my client kept all of the frames and mats in the same tones, but they are all so different and add so much texture to the room!

as you can see, she already had her seat cushions covered in schumachers chiang mai dragon. (yummy!) she was looking to add a touch of chinoiserie and wanted to bump up the style and add a touch of chic to this formal room.
