a walk through GDC home

i wanted to share another snippet from our recent trip to south carolina....a walk through a pretty fabulous home decor store called GDC home located in the freshfields center, in between kiawah and seabrook. (they have 2 other locations as well.)

the location is so picturesque---and the market area has a great grocery store, several restaurants and

some great boutiques, including GDC home.

what a pretty vignette...love the white dresser with the ring pulls paired with the rustic wood on top.
oh, and that lamp and that mirror are very fabulous as well!

pretty fabulous nail trimmed head board!

the whole store had a coastal vibe, but done RIGHT with lots of texture, great art and amazing accessories.

are you dying over these fretwork blue velvet pillows? i am!

i love coral. even ones that look like brains! ha!

traditional chair + geometric fabric = a winner every time.

i. want. that. pillow.
love the modern chair with the zebra print too!

if i had a beach house....this would be hanging in it SOMEWHERE.

i love both of these styles of artwork----the bright, happy abstract palm tree as well as the vintage sepia looking prints.

the christmas tree was pretty fabulous too!

purple is definitely not one of my favorite colors, but i was really drawn to these dusty lavender pillows.

oh, and as if i hadn't already had a gorgeousness overload, i walked out of the store and saw THIS!
*sigh....

Quick and Easy Room Makeovers (guest post)

Revamping a room can be as simple as changing a key piece of furniture or making a small adjustment to a colour scheme. Making over a room doesn’t have to be days of DIY and it doesn’t need to cost a fortune. Any room can be given a new lease of life with these quick and easy tips.

Furniture Makeover – Worn and outdated furniture can really drag a room down. Fortunately this is often easily fixed with a lick of paint and a few key accessories. Tired wooden wardrobes and dressers can be brightened up with white or cream paint in the space of an afternoon. Make sure you sand the wood before you paint it, otherwise you will get a patchy uneven finish. Take drawers out of wardrobes and dressers before you paint them and make sure you are starting on a smooth and easily accessible canvas. A coat of white paint and some pewter handles that you can pick up cheaply online at places like The Handle Store can turn a boring piece of furniture into something stylish and modern.

Soft Furnishings – Of course, adding different coloured cushions or changing your drapes can give a room a whole new look, but if you are looking for more of a dramatic change, covering your sofa is a quick and inexpensive way of giving your living room a total revamp. Reupholstering is costly and, more important, permanent. A little practise with a sewing machine, on the other hand, can give you the skills to knock up a slip cover that can be whipped off if you tire of it or want a change of colour. It takes some careful measuring and cutting, but it is easily achievable within a day. The best option for buying material is to do it online; it is much cheaper this way but do make sure you order swatches before you buy to be sure of colour and texture.

Wall Decals – Painting and wallpapering rooms is expensive and time consuming, not to mention the disruption it makes to your life while you do it. If you rent, it is also often not an option. Wall decals are made of vinyl and stick to any smooth flat surface without damaging adhesives. Choose a decal in a contrasting colour to your wall for a dramatic feature, or one that is only a shade different for a gorgeous subtle effect. Wall decals are especially good for children’s rooms as they can be changed and applied far easier as children grow and their interests and tastes change.

a visit to west elm

earlier this week, i popped in west elm for a visit.

this west elm is located in downtown salt lake city, and is in the new city creek center, across from the historic temple square.

if you have never been to a west elm, you need to make a point to pop in the next time you are in a city that has one!

i love the way they have the most items displayed by color.

such eye candy!

if you have only been shopping on west elm online, you might have missed their new "market" area--where they carry dishes, and all things related to housekeeping. their stuff is seriously chic. i found myself daydreaming about throwing out all of my mixing bowls, canisters, hot pads, and kitchen "gear" and starting from scratch.

i am a huge fan of west elm lighting! their items are so unique and look great in any space. they always manage to stock items that add an edge to a very traditional room, or add some softness to a very modern space.

one item that i am particularly taken with is their version of the "bed in a bag". they come pre-packaged in coordinating sets so you can just grab and go and know your bed will look great.

this pretty maize version comes with the sunburst duvet cover and polka dot sheets, and then you can throw on whatever accent you want.
