sneaky shallow storage

no matter how big or small your home is, clever, functional storage is always appreciated.

in our house, i took full advantage of the space behind the doors of the master bedroom closets:

in my husbands closet, we used the space to store his ties!

it is amazing how many ties can be stored in a space that is normally "lost".

this solution literally only takes 3" of projected space from the wall. you could also use this space to install hooks for coats, robes or belts.

for this project, we used the most inexpensive walmart towel bar we could find.

we did the same thing behind the door of my closet---

and in my youngest daughters walk in closet!

we finally installed the closets in my kids rooms this past weekend. my kids have never been so happy to hang their clothes up! it's pretty amazing how having the right kind of storage can make life SO much tidier and easier. it was a happy, happy weekend at the clemon's house!

on the hunt: affordable metal baskets

i have been on the hunt for some decent, affordable metal baskets for the bottom of gradys bathroom vanity for a few weeks now.

i really like these from restoration hardware, but i thought the price was a little steep (even on sale)

wisteria always has a great selection of metal baskets. i really liked this one, but i didnt want a liner, and they were also more than i wanted to spend:

but, gheesh! i really did not want to spend $70-120 on two wire baskets....

i found these affordable baskets, which came as a set of three, and i almost ordered them, but they were a little bit smaller than what i needed:

there are usually some great, vintage options on etsy like this one, but i really want two that match, and it is very difficult to find a set.

yesterday, i was at target, and spotted these:

the size was perfect, i like the look of them, and they were on sale for $18 each! (plus, NO shipping costs!)

yes, please. i will take 2.

they just needed ONE little change----(i bet you can guess what it is!)

there, MUCH better!

here they are in their new home, already being put to use!

i still haven't painted the walls in the bathroom yet, but i am making some progress!

i wanted to have this bath finished by the end of the month, but i may need a few extra days.

*i have received several questions about this vanity in the last few weeks.

it is called the LOGAN vanity from restoration hardware.

i bought it on clearance last fall for just under $400. they no longer have this exact vanity available, but there are some that are similar:

the "new" logan vanity (same wood, different configuration) on final sale right now for $359!

(about what i paid for mine!)

pottery barn's classic single console has similar lines, and is available in 2 painted finishes.

mini living room at ikea

i had to run to ikea earlier this week, and if i have time when i go, i like to walk around the showroom. most of the time, i am there just to grab something, and i am in and out in record time. (for real. i bet if you divided the number of times i have been to ikea by the total number of minutes i have stayed, i would win some type of medal or something! or at least get some free chocolate...)

anyway, i was particularly captivated by this mini living space:

ok, not really. but i WAS in a hurry.)

there are so many SMART space saving ideas at work here!

*i really love the armless sofa. arms take up a lot of space on a chair or sofa, and eliminating them not only opens up the room, but saves precious inches.

*the fact that the storage wall is floating is also a HUGE space saver because it takes up zero floor space, allowing the sofa to fit more snugly against the wall.

*the use of two small tables and a small floor lamp adds functionality to the room without compromising space.

*the art hung below the below the storage is brilliant, and lets not forget the lighting! the space would feel very different if all of the lighting was coming form the ceiling. staggering the lighting on different elevations helps to create a sense of coziness and also eliminates dark shadows.

*i also love the the entertainment area is wall mounted, allowing the ottomans to be partially tucked away.

wouldn't you love to have a room like this if you lived in a big city and had a tiny apartment? who says you have to compromise style and storage when space is short?
